The Problem

Roviniete.ro sells road vignettes and RCA car insurance to thousands of Romanian drivers. The business was healthy, but checkout still ran on an aging payment integration that was quietly costing sales.

Three things hurt the most. Customers had effectively one way to pay, so anyone without that option simply left. Some payment confirmations failed silently, leaving paid orders stuck until the team tracked them down by hand. And every time a vignette expired, the driver had to return and buy it all over again.

Each of those was a moment where a ready-to-buy customer could slip away, and a recurring drain on the team's time.

The Solution

We rebuilt the payment experience around the customer, and did it without ever taking the shop offline.

First, the foundation: we moved checkout onto PayU's latest gateway running side by side with the old one, so the switch was completely invisible to shoppers. On top of that we added pay-by-card and direct bank-to-bank (open banking) payments with the major Romanian banks, giving customers a familiar way to pay.

Then the reliability and convenience: payment confirmations now complete end to end, so orders no longer get stuck and the team stops chasing them. Vignettes renew automatically, so drivers stay covered without lifting a finger.

Finally, we broadened what the shop can sell and strengthened account security for the team behind it.
